Answer:
Yes, you can attend Gardner College if you are not affiliated with any church. We welcome all students who meet our addmission standards.
FAQ: I heard your College is real a "churchy" is this true?
Answer:
We are "A Centre for Christian Studies" we do ask all students, faculty and staff to read and sign a Life Style agreement while attending our college. We offer one chapel service during the week, which we encourage our students to attend, however they are not mandatory. We accept people of all walks of life inter-denominational and non-denominational.
FAQ: Where do I get a CWIS check? Do I need it before college starts?
Answer:
You can obtain your CWIS check at your local Child and Family Services Authority office (Social Services office). Yes you need to get this check done before attending college.
FAQ: What is a CWIS check?
Answer:
A CWIS check is a Child Welfare Information System check, available through your local Child & Family Services Authority Office (Social Services). You must have this in place before you begin college. A persons in a practicum site through Gardner College is required to have this check.
FAQ: Can I take ECD or CYCW courses on-line or by Distance Education?
Answer:
We are working towards on-line studies in these areas, however they are not available yet.
FAQ: Are there any scholarships or bursaries that I can apply for at Gardner College?
Answer:
Yes, there are a number of scholarships and bursaries you can apply for, call 780-672-0171 for more information.
FAQ: Do I need a First-Aid certificate for any of your programs at Gardner College?
Answer:
Yes, all ECD and CYCW students are required to have a current First-Aid and Child certificate before you enter your practicum site. You may attain this before coming to college or we do offer this course during the first two weeks of school. Dates and times are posted on the College Calendar. You must let the registrar know if you need to be enrolled in this two day training.

STANDARD ADMISSION
Students must meet ONE of the following criteria

Alberta High School diploma with 50% or better in English 30 or 33. or non-Alberta equivalent.

-or- Successful completion of the General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) with a standard score of 50 or better in English.
FAQ: I have been out of school for many years what are your requirements for a mature student?

MATURE ADMISSION
For admission as a mature student, ALL of the following criteria apply:

Twenty-five years of age or older.

50% in Alberta High School English or non-Alberta equivalent.
FAQ: I have been HOME SCHOOLED do you have any special requirements other than the standard admission?

HOME EDUCATION ADMISSION
For Home Education students that do not fit under STANDARD ADMISSION, all of the following apply:

A personal interview with the student must be arranged.

The student shall submit a portfolio with samples of their writing, essays, and projects. These will be reviewed to help determine admission into Gardner College.
FAQ: I am from another country, can I attend your college?
Answer:
FOREIGN ADMISSION
Applicants from outside Canada are to provide evidence, in English, of their academic achievement for evaluation. Evidence of all academic progress in school (high school and post-secondary) from the ninth year of education on, is to be supplied by the applicant.
Persons seeking entrance to Gardner College from countries where English is not the primary language must demonstrate proficiency in English or they will be required to enroll in ESL (English as a Second Language) at market cost, during their first semester, and possibly subsequent semesters. In addition, they may be restricted in their Gardner course load.
